HbbTV becomes an internationally important technology platform for hybrid and interactive TV services

The HbbTV specification is developed by industry leaders to improve the video user experience for consumers by enabling innovative, interactive services over broadcast and broadband networks.

Aligned with other web standards, HbbTV simplifies the task of creating interactive content on TVs. It has evolved into the de facto industry standard for interactive linear TV, already available on millions of devices in 25 countries including Australia, the UK, Germany, Spain, Nordic, etc.

HbbTV 2 technologies to experience directly at the show

Ye Wang, CEO at SERAPHIC, introduced, “HbbTV has for many years led the way in setting standards that enable truly engaging television experiences, and SERAPHIC has been delighted to participate for many years as an active member in this association. We are proud to be one of the earliest HbbTV2 solution providers. Based on powerful Blink engine, SERAPHIC’s browser is able to provide complete feature support for the latest HbbTV 2 technologies.”

Together with IRT, the key member of HbbTV Association and the earliest HbbTV 2 App developer, SERAPHIC brings new functionality to HbbTV terminals and enable features including enhanced dynamic ad insertion, improved accessibility, seamless cross-device viewing and standardized Ultra HD delivery with HEVC.

Highlighted technologies include:

Companion Screen - This makes it possible for your smartphone or tablet (companion devices) to interact with your TV when watching broadcasts.

Media synchronization - This allows you to play a video (muted) on TV and to select the audio track with the preferred language in the companion application.

Klaus Merkel, HbbTV project coordinator at IRT, commented, “IRT is always keeping an eye on the industry trend and aims at developing novel services for connected TVs. We are excited to cooperate with SERAPHIC integrating the latest features for HbbTV 2 into connected devices, positioning HbbTV 2 at the forefront of digital TV technology.”
