Freeview Play continues its growth momentum with SERAPHIC’s ready-to-go Freeview Play solution aiming at the mass deployment in the UK market.

In October 2015, Freeview, the UK’s No. 1 TV platform, launched its connected TV service Freeview Play, which combines catch-up TV, on-demand services and live television, to the mass market. Freeview Play is set to be the next generation of this No. 1 Hybrid TV platform.

What’s the challenge for Freeview Play certification? The open-platform, hybrid IP/DTT proposition will provide a consistent and easy-to-use connected TV service. Its key technical features are: common HTML5 application environment, broadcast profile based on D-Book 7 Part A v4 (including MHEG), aggregated source of metadata providing forwards and backwards EPG, etc.

SERAPHIC, the leading digital TV browser and “TV + browser” solution provider, now becomes one of the few technology suppliers to provide Freeview Play solution, thanks to its profound knowledge about overseas TV market and rich experiences accumulated from the wide deployment of its well-known Sraf® HTML5 Browser. SERAPHIC’s Freeview Play solution, a built-in browser Software Development Kit (“SDK”) based on Google Blink, meets all Freeview Play specifications and perfectly adapts to a range of mainstream chipset platforms including Mstar.

Partnering with SERAPHIC and chipset vendors, TV manufactures will be enabled to pass the extremely strict and challenging certification, via ready-to-go Freeview Play solution with great adaptability, to rapidly roll out their devices into the UK’s TV market. TV products certified by Freeview Play are considered as high-value-added smart TVs, with most popular catch-up TV and on-demand contents pre-integrated; meanwhile the brand influence will be considerably enhanced.

As a major European market with great growth potential, the UK is a key target for those manufacturers who aim at expanding the overseas connected TV market and boosting the global sales of connected TV devices. There also lies the probability for more European countries to join the Freeview Play club in future.

Ye Wang, CSO of SERAPHIC, said: “It is undoubtedly a key milestone that SERAPHIC’s Sraf HTML5 Browser has passed Freeview Play’s whole set of strict specifications, underpinning the upcoming momentum of Freeview Play’s deployment in the mass market. SERAPHIC will first provide such commercial-grade Freeview Play SDK to four major device manufactures including some renowned global consumer brands. We believe our ready-to-go Freeview Play solution will greatly enhance TV/STB manufacturers’ competitivity in the connected TV space.”
